Santa Claus is wrapping those last presents for all the good boys and girls, while we’re donning our most festive jumpers, decorating our houses, listening to Michael Buble’s Christmas album on repeat as loud as we can and trying to ‘lose weight so we can put on weight’ over the festive season! There is no doubt, this is the best time of year with the biggest celebrations and we’re here to tell you all the goings-on in Richmond this Christmas and to let you know the dates we are open and closed over the festive season.
Have you ever wondered what the Yuletide was like in 1650, when (the Original Scrooge) Oliver Cromwell banned Christmas? If so, from Thursday 1st – Saturday 31st December, Ham House are inviting you to leave your jingle bells at home and join them for their Secret Christmas. Bah Humbug!
For Christmas lights and stalls, mulled wine and carol singers from local schools, Kew is the place to be on Friday 2nd December and throughout December, as their annual ‘Kew Sparkle’ will be glittering from 5pm – 8pm… and the shops will be open late for shopping too (what a bonus)!
It’s not Christmas unless you have been to watch a pantomime in Richmond Theatre, so it’s lucky that fairytale classic ‘Sleeping Beauty’ will be coming to the stage from Friday 2nd December – Sunday 8th January 2017. Olivier award-winner, Maureen Lipman makes a welcome return to Richmond’s spectacular Panto as the Wicked Fairy, with CBeebies favourite Chris Jarvis joining her, playing Chester the Jester after an overwhelming popular demand. Check out tickets and prices here.
Join hundreds of runners strolling, jogging, sprinting or meandering round the beautiful 5k course through Richmond and Bushy Park and help raise money to support the amazing work of the Princess Alice Hospice at the same time. Over 12's will receive a free Santa Suit and a snazzy Elf Hat will be given to those under the age of 12 to wear whilst they take part. Where do we sign up?
Embrace the festive season by joining one of the most popular wreath making workshops Richmond has to offer. Petersham Nurseries will teach you about festive wreath making and its history, also how to celebrate the finest seasonal foliage, mosses and berries. After which you will create your own garden inspired wreath, using woodland materials. You’ll be so impressed with your work, you’ll be able to hang it proudly at home!
From Saturday 10th December – Thursday 22nd December, parents can take their little ones to visit Father Christmas at Ham House. Follow the Christmas trail in the gardens to visit Father Christmas in his grotto where every child will receive a Christmas gift.
Unfortunately, Chase Buchanan can’t be open all through the festive season, so please see below the days we are open and closed.
Friday 23rd December – Tuesday 27th December – closed
Wednesday 28th December – Friday 30th December – open – 10am – 2pm
Saturday 31st December – Monday 2nd January – closed
